Professional Instructor Training Course
This one year residential course is a genuine training opportunity for you to work towards and take part in a wide range of instructional qualifications. Our qualified instructional team will provide quality input and guidance throughout the year. There is plenty of scope for consolidation of practical skills and teaching techniques including a six week skiing block in Switzerland.

Our aim is to provide the best Professional Instructor Training programme for Christians seeking employment in outdoor education. The course will provide a comprehensive package of skills, experiences and qualifications to prepare you for the demands of working in outdoor pursuits. An integral part of the year is the opportunity for personal Christian growth and an insight into the value of using outdoor activities in Christian ministry. To help consolidate skills learnt we will arrange twelve weeks of work experience at the other Abernethy Centres to develop teaching competency and to gain an understanding of the demands of Christian Outdoor work.

Each student has the opportunity to achieve the following during the year-long course:
Rock Climbing:
SMLTB Single Pitch Award
Kayaking / Canoeing:
UKCC Level 1 & 2 Coach Training and Assessment
Skiing:
Snowsport Scotland Alpine Ski Leader Award or BASI Level 1 Instructor Course
Mountain Biking
: SCU Trail Cycle Leader
First Aid
: BASP Standard certificate
Orienteering:
British Orienteering Teaching Orienteering part 1
Archery:
GNAS Archery Leader Award
Minibus Driving:
PCV Minibus Theory Test (if eligible)
If you have previous experience in a discipline we will, where possible, coach and encourage you to gain a higher qualification.
If you intend to take part in both the Summer Mountain Leader Course Training and Assessment you will need at least 20 "Quality Mountain Days" before the start of the course. If you don't have sufficient days you will still be able to take part in the Summer ML Training.
