Organising a school trip
or outdoor education programme?
What do we offer?
One day, weekend & Monday - Friday adventure activity residential experiences for school pupils. Our programmes promote a healthy active lifestyle and are an excellent means of promoting learning outside the classroom. All of our Centres are able to offer the John Muir Award as well as our own in-house Leadership Through Adventure Award at no extra cost.
Experience & Reputation
Abernethy has built up a wealth of experience over 40 years in the field of outdoor education and school trips. At our four residential outdoor adventure centres in Scotland, we specialise in introducing young people to the outdoor classroom and helping to educate them in a safe, yet challenging environment. We offer tailor-made adventure packages for primary & secondary schools as well as colleges and universities.
Making it work for you...
We understand how difficult it can be to afford the time and money to take your school away. Whether it's transport, getting cover at school or general logistics, we can help! We can offer 2 or 3 night stays, off peak trips and we also have a Bursary Fund available to help those who might not otherwise be able to afford to go away. Call Lesley Pearson on 0131 336 3588 to see how we can work with you to get your residential trip off the ground.
A Choice of Centre
We have 4 stunning Centres to choose from:
Abernethy Ardgour is on the west coast near to Fort William.
Abernethy Ardeonaig is on the south side of Loch Tay in the middle of the Country.
Abernethy Barcaple is near the Solway Firth in Dumfries & Galloway
Abernethy Nethybridge is in the Spey Valley not far from Aviemore and Inverness
Learning for Life
Taking learning outdoors is what we are all about. Our programmes are designed in an endeavour to suit the needs and abilities of all your pupils. Through their Abernethy adventure we can help them to develop all four capacities of a Curriculum for Excellence.
“Learning is embedded in experience. By taking learning outdoors we remove the barriers that the traditional classroom can put up between young people and first-hand, real-life experiences. Outdoor learning is hands-on and direct, and the knowledge that pupils gain from it is real, first-hand and unforgettable”*.
This has been our focus for over 40 years, and we are continually developing our courses and services to meet your needs.

We are passionate about what we do
We firmly believe in our work and know that allowing children freedom to experience adventure activities, whilst under the care of qualified staff, offers unquestionable benefits to their personal and social development. We regularly hear positive comments from teachers who have had the privilege of seeing growth and development in their pupils during an Abernethy course.

Don't just take our word for it
We regularly get excellent feedback, emails and letters from our visiting schools and groups - here are just some of the positive comments we have had recently from schools at all four Abernethy Centres:
"Spending a week with you all is a very special experience. The care & attention that you give to make sure that everybody is looked after is fantastic..." Glasgow Academy
"We are very impressed by the commitment & dedication of the staff. Thanks very much." Kelvinside Academy
"The experiences you gave the children were invaluable. They were enabled at every opportunity to rise to new challenges, to find strengths in themselves and others that they had previously been unaware of. This could not have been achieved without your expertise, encouragement - and boundless energy..." Bervie Primary School
"Last week my classmates and I came to Abernethy Ardeonaig. The whole week was absolutely great. The food I have to say was excellent, the rooms were fantastic and the activities were brilliant. Last week was probably the best week of school ever..." Pupil, Clackmannan Primary School
