DofE | Expeditions

We are passionate about the many benefits of learning in the outdoors. As such, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award plays a central role in the programmes we offer, providing young people with the framework to discover more about themselves and the attributes they will need to develop throughout their teenage years and early adulthood. Located within spectacular wild country areas, our four AALA Licensed Adventure Centres provide the ideal locations across Scotland to plan and complete Bronze, Silver and Gold Expeditions, whether on foot or on water.

Work with our Instructors to build a programme to suit your group’s level of ability and support, as well as your budget. We are able to offer training days or weekends, practice expeditions and qualifying expeditions. Our DofE accredited Assessors and Supervisors will work with participants to plan their routes, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and skills to navigate through rural, open or wild country.

Price: £49 per person per day (2013 price, inc VAT) – this includes a DofE Supervisor (Instructional Staff member), on-site camping, expedition transport.

Optional extras such as equipment hire and expedition food can also be provided for an additional charge.

[Note: Unless the route or mode of transport requires otherwise, our general rule is one Supervisor per group. As set out in DofE Expedition Conditions group sizes are 4-7]

DofE | Residentials

Abernethy offers a range of options for your Gold residential, from Service to others to Environment and Conservation to Activity based / Learning. Read on for more information, dates and prices and contact the individual Centres for more information. Please note that in line with DofE guidelines, you should join these residentials as an individual and not as a group of friends and we need at least 5 people per residential to fulfill DofE Residential criteria.

Service to others:
Assist at a residential camp at our outdoor centre, joining in with all departments. You will be helping with our resident school groups, learning how an outdoor centre operates.

Please note that all Service to Others participants will need a PVG Disclosure before working with the young people. We can arrange this for you for a 1 off £10 admin fee.

Environment and Conservation:
Based at Abernethy Ardeonaig. Help on a conservation project, most likely in the National Trust for Scotland Ben Lawers National Nature Reserve (MORE INFO), with the opportunity to gain a John Muir Award. As a reward for your hard work, join us for adventure activities, e.g. High Ropes Session and Team Tasks. Please note that in line with DofE guidelines, you should join these residentials as an individual and not as a group of friends.

We offer a choice of different weeks in this category. Read on and contact the Centre of your choice for more info or to make a booking.

Revise & Relax: Join us for this great week of concentrated exam revision with a twist at Abernethy Ardeonaig. Work hard and play hard by revising and then taking part in outdoor activities to clear your head, ready to get back to the books. Revision time will be supervised and activities will include the High Ropes course and more.
