Discover what schools are saying about their experiences at Abernethy

Our school has come on our P7 residential in the autumn term for more than 30 years. It allows us to really get to know the children, their confidence grows, it develops their independence skills early in P7 and we reap the benefits of being able to use all the skills the children develop whilst on residential throughout the rest of the academic year.

Gillian RodgersHead Teacher | Balloch Primary School, Inverness

After a wonderful and very memorable week at Nethy Bridge, we wanted to offer some feedback to the team [...] The children learned lessons for life, and in a positive and meaningful way. [...] Our week was full of joy! [...] Every instructor, without exception, led the groups with enthusiasm, kindness and encouragement. [...] Every part of Abernethy...made the children’s experience a fantastic one, and the adults’ lives easier.

The opportunities for children to build their confidence has been great. Seeing their faces when they have overcome challenge is something I will cherish forever!

My staff team considered it the best residential we have run with S6. We found the Abernethy staff welcoming, helpful, positive, and professional.

My parents were so shocked about everything I told them. You helped me to fear nothing.

P7 PupilSchool Trip

Children felt obvious pride at overcoming difficulty. Their support of each other was heart warming and their readiness to celebrate the achievements of others made a huge difference to confidence. Amazing week with wonderful staff and instructors - we can’t thank you enough for all you’ve done for our pupils. We appreciate you and all your hard work.

At the beginning of the stay and during the first activities, [our pupils'] teamwork skills weren’t great, lots of them were just jumping in without communicating, and a couple were impatient. Today, my team brought tears to my eyes encouraging a pupil with ASN who was struggling - every one of them supported her - it was magic!

Nethy Bridge Team & Facilities

From the moment you arrive, you’ll be supported by a team whose warmth and experience set Abernethy apart. With decades of running school residentials, our staff know how to help every child feel safe, supported and at home – creating an environment where they can relax, try new things and grow in confidence. It’s this warmth, combined with our experience, that makes Nethy Bridge feel like a true home from home.

Our site offers a fantastic range of activities to spark adventure and curiosity, from a 160m zip wire and canoe pond to a dry ski slope and climbing wall. During quieter moments, pupils can unwind in our sports hall or games room, and there’s even a small tuck shop for treats.

All of this is set within the beautiful Cairngorms National Park, where wildlife is part of daily life. Deer, red squirrels, crested tits and ospreys are frequent visitors – and if you’re lucky, you might even spot a pine marten or the elusive capercaillie.
