An awesome Christian gap year full of new experiences...

"My gap year: great, learning, growing, serving, community, family, challenging and God in all of this. I don’t regret one thing of it and will never forget this awesome time.”

Start dates:

Full Year: August 2019 (flexible).

Join our gappie team...

Abernethy has a long history of recruiting "Gappies" to help us in our ministry and to work alongside our permanent teams to glorify God in all that they do.  Each centre has its own different gap year programme but the ethos of all the centres is to "work hard and play hard!". Working Gap Years are available at Abernethy Ardeonaig, Abernethy Barcaple and Abernethy Nethybridge. Instructor Training course and Ski Instructor course available at Abernethy Ardgour.

Make a real difference

The contribution that our gap year teams make is huge and is never underestimated.  Just because you are only with us for a year doesn't mean we won't invest time into your personal development.  Many of our gappies stay on for at least one more year and, if you look hard, you will find that some of our ex-gappies are in senior management positions, including one of our current Operations Directors who heads up a whole centre.

Opportunities to share your faith

As a gappie you will join in with the evening Explore sessions that are part of the schools programme - these sessions are our opportunity to share the gospel message with our visiting groups in a fun, lively, child centred way that fits into their school curriculum.  Alongside Explore, each centre has a weekly team fellowship and you will take turns with the other team members to share a morning thought for the day.
Away from the centre you will be able to play an active part in the local church as well as youth groups, prayer groups, Bible studies etc in the local area.

Find out more about yourself and others

The best bit about being away from home is the life skills that you can learn, from doing your own washing to learning to look after yourself and to develop in your own faith.  Living with others will help you develop the skills to be tolerant, to compromise and to understand that everyone is different.  You will also learn so much fom your new friends, colleagues and peers.  Training for the job that you will be doing is provided and you will quickly learn how the centre works on a daily basis.

Safe & secure

We can give your friends and family the peace of mind to know that although you are no longer living at home, you are in a safe and secure environment within a caring community.

“For my gap year I had to leave my family, friends and my home country behind to find out, who I am, how to grow in challenges and that I am not alone. Looking back now I can see God’s presence and that I found something like a new family in the team throughout this year."

“My gap year was one of the best years of my life, and a year of learning for me. One thing I learned was about Christian community and how the body of Christ works as a family.”

“Great people and great community – wish I was still there”
