Gap Year Team - Abernethy

Full-time, short-term contract positions available for 1 year from August 2020
We also have a 6 month position at Abernethy Nethybridge from February 2020 - August 2020 (House & Kitchen)

Who should apply?

You will have the time of your life on an Abernethy Christian Gap Year!  With a strong ethos of work hard and play hard alongside an awesome team, you will learn more about yourself, others and God and have experiences you never imagined.  We offer paid annual leave, full-board single accommodation with no fuel bills and the opportunity to take part in outdoor activities in your spare time with our team of highly qualified instructors.

Have a look at our Gap Year film and be inspired!

What are the key roles of an Abernethy Gap Year Team Member?

  • Food preparation, cooking and service
  • Kitchen cleaning & washing up
  • Housekeeping, including cleaning and changeover day work
  • Involvement with ‘Explore’ Christian programme, explaining and sharing the Christian faith with our guests
  • Involvement with the local church

Firstly, the year is about service – in practice and theory. As well as your work, there will be a focus on discipleship. A year at Abernethy is a great opportunity to grow in your faith, to deepen your relationship with Christ and to learn about God and share him with our guests.

Through the year there will be times set aside for teaching, both spiritual and practical. These will include team fellowship on a weekly basis, a conference with the teams from all the Abernethy centres, as well as opportunities to attend other conferences and training courses held at the Abernethy centres.

What experience are we looking for?

In an ideal world, we would be keen for the following criteria to be met by the successful candidate:

  • Experience in catering and/or housekeeping would be an advantage, but not essential.
  • Enthusiasm and aptitude and ability to work hard as part of a team are more important than highly developed skills as full training will be given.
  • Positive Christian role model for both guests and staff

What are the benefits?

  • A monthly salary
  • Full-board, single accommodation
  • Paid annual leave (30 days per annum)
  • Use of Centre facilities including outdoor equipment
  • Opportunity for personal training and development
  • Opportunities to take an active role within the life of our local church and Christian youth work
  • Living as part of a vibrant Christian Community, in a beautiful part of Scotland

Who should apply?

Abernethy's vision is to provide exceptional outdoor adventure experiences where our guests can discover more about themselves, others and God.

We are looking for a hands-on team player who has a good level of initiative and wants to be a part of this vision. First and foremost, we are looking for people who want to serve God in this kind of outreach, so your Christian Faith will be evident in your life.
