Autumn Birdwatching Retreat (with opportunities for wildlife photography)

September 29 - October 3

Description

Jesus told his followers to ‘look at the birds of the air’ and at Kilmalieu we are blessed with a remarkable range of birds. From tiny goldcrests to majestic golden and white-tailed eagles … there is a rich variety of mountain, moorland, woodland and shoreline birds to see, hear, enjoy and learn from.

During the retreat we will enjoy times of contemplative Christian worship, guided birdwatching walks and reflections on some of the birds featured in the Bible. For those who are interested, Dale will provide guidance and tips for wildlife photography along the way – and will do this in a way that will add to the retreat for all.

The guided birdwatching walks are suitable for complete beginners. One day will include the option of a high-level walk in the company of an experienced mountain leader – and in search of specialist birds such as ptarmigan and eagles.

Kilmalieu occupies a stunning position on the shore of Loch Linnhe. It is a renovated eighteenth-century hunting lodge with a mixture of comfortable single, twin and family bedrooms. Numbers on this retreat are limited to 12. Food is home-made and consistently praised for its quality. Guests have access to a small library, chapel, art room, lounge and gym – and are free to explore the 3000-acre estate, with its glorious mix of mountains, coastline and woodland.

Dale Hanson

This retreat will be led by Dale Hanson. Dale has recently retired after almost 40 years of Anglican ministry that has taken him around the world from the UK to Hong Kong (twice) and France. It just so happens that these places are exceptionally good for bird watching! He is passionate about his faith, an experienced retreat leader and has been an enthusiastic bird watcher and wildlife photographer for most of his life.
