What we offer

Abernethy hosts a variety of courses across our centres.

We offer courses for anyone who wants to develop their skills or gain nationally recognised qualifications in adventure activities. Whether you are a complete beginner or looking to become a qualified outdoor instructor, we have a variety of courses that we run.

Some courses run full time over a long period, and some are over weekends or weekly over a block of moths. See below for the details of each course, and keep an eye out for more being added in the future.

Trainee Instructor Course

The Trainee Instructor course is designed to kickstart your career as an outdoor instructor. It is a 10 month residential course in which you will work towards a wide range of outdoor qualifications while living in a Christian community in the Cairngorms. Barcaple Climbing Club

BCC is a great space for kids from P5 up to learn and practice at our great indoor climbing wall. With a bouldering section, 16 roped lines and friendly qualified instructors, it is a great opportunity to learn, meet new people and have tons of fun.

DATES: 14 Monday nights during term time from 24th August – 14th December 2026

TIMES: Years P5-P7   3:45-5:15pm

              Years S1-S6   5:30-6:45pm

Climbers of all abilities are welcome.

£112 for a block of 14 sessions, to be paid in advance.

Nethy Bridge Ski Lessons

Come and learn to Ski on our floodlit artificial ski slope before the winter season starts…

DATES: 4 Monday nights. 26th October, 2nd, 9th, 16th November 2026

TIMES:  4pm-6pm (arrive at 3.30 on 26th October for ski issue)

£120 for a block of 4 sessions, to be paid in advance.

Who can come?
Primary School aged beginners of a minimum age of 6 years old.

What’s included:

  • Ski equipment hire
  • Use of artificial slope
  • Instruction
  • Hot chocolate

What to bring:

  • Gloves
  • Waterproof clothing
  • Long sleeved top and long trousers

Please note:

  • Sessions are aimed at beginners.
  • All skiers will be in instructed groups, with tuition from Abernethy Instructors.
  • Places are limited and will be on a first come first serve basis.
  • You are welcome to stay and watch the lesson, however children can be dropped off and supervision will be provided until 6pm.
