Where is Barcaple?

Abernethy Barcaple is set in the secluded rolling hills of Dumfries and Galloway near the town of Kirkcudbright. The centre is less than two hours from Glasgow, Carlisle and Ayr and two and a half from Edinburgh, Newcastle and Lancaster.

We have easy access to the 7stanes bike trails of Kirroughtree, Dalbeattie, Mabie and Ae; mountain biking is definitely in our veins. Loch Ken and the river Dee are within close reach, as are the magnificent beaches of the Solway coast, all of which provide excellent environments for kayaking and canoeing.

Activities at Barcaple

Abseiling

Challenge yourself at height from our abseiling tree!

Archery

Archery is a favourite amongst some of our younger guests and with permanent archery areas on-site at our Centres we can set up the activities to suit your programme.

Bushcraft

Learn how to survive in the wild with skills such as building shelters and making your own fire.

Canoeing

Whether it’s on a calm loch, through white water on a river or as an expedition canoeing is an exciting challenge.

Challenge Course

A huge obstacle course centred around teamwork and problem-solving. Climbing, crawling, swinging and sliding will be needed to score points.

Climbing (Indoor)

A state-of-the-art climbing barn with a range of climbs for all abilities. Including a bouldering wall, roped walls and auto-belay, we will equip you with the skills to conquer gravity!

Climbing (Outdoor)

Our centre has easy access to single-pitch crags in stunning locations, with enough to challenge the most adventurous rock climber!

Crate Climbing

Build the tallest tower of crates possible to test your teamwork and balance!

Forest/Beach adventure

An educational adventure through the local forest or along one of our beautiful local beaches,

Kayaking

Learn the basics and do challenges on our on-site pond or paddle down the river Dee!

Mountain Biking

Our centres are well situated to offer some of Scotland’s best riding, whether it’s for a day or multi-day expeditions.

Stand Up Paddleboarding

One of our favourite new ways to navigate lochs and rivers.

Zip wire

Feel the adrenaline as you fly through the air! Only for the brave!!

Facilities

Barcaple is a large country house set in 20 acres of land. We can house up to 60 guests and have meeting rooms and lounges for guests to use. Our sports barn is a state-of-the-art facility with a 20m indoor climbing wall, indoor sports hall for basketball, badminton and football as well as accessible showers and toilets. We also have a boating pond, playing field and forested land where we provide exciting activities and challenges.
