Adventure and Friendship: insights in following Jesus from Lewis and Tolkien

October 16 - October 19

Description

On this autumn retreat we will explore the wonderful themes of adventure and friendship – through the stories and other writings of C. S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. We will draw close to God by using their insights and the scriptures as prompts for reflecting on our own experiences of the Christian Way.

The retreat is led by Andy Swinford, author of ‘The Practice of Joy: insights from the stories of C S Lewis’ (Grove) and contributor to ‘The Christian Tradition in English Literature’ (Zondervan). Andy led a similar retreat at Kilmalieu last autumn and reviews were outstanding (‘Amazing … well-structured and organised … very meaningful, helpful and encouraging’). In addition to Andy’s input and sensitively-led prayer and worship, there will be plenty of space for personal retreat, walking and enjoying God’s wonderful creation in the beautiful surroundings of Kilmalieu.

Kilmalieu occupies a stunning position on the shore of Loch Linnhe. It is a renovated eighteenth-century hunting lodge with a mixture of comfortable single, twin and family bedrooms. Food is home-made and consistently praised for its quality. Guests have access to a small library, art room, lounge, chapel and gym – and are free to explore the estate, with its glorious mix of mountains, coastline and woodland.

Andy Swinford

Andy Swinford is a former teacher of English Literature. He delivers multimedia presentations and online classes about C. S. Lewis, as well as leading retreats on the spiritual enrichment to be gained from the writings of the two friends Lewis and Tolkien. His faith and his beekeeping are major sources of joy for Andy.
